How Heavy Is a Rollator and Will It Fit in the Car?
Rollator weight is easy to overlook when shopping online.
You may be comfortable using a rollator every day, but lifting it into a car, folding it for storage or moving it up a step can be a very different experience.
We are using the Equipmed Easy Stride Rollator as a practical example. Its aluminium frame weighs approximately 8 kg and folds to around 27 cm wide.

Is an 8 kg rollator lightweight?
At approximately 8 kg, the Easy Stride is relatively lightweight for a four wheel rollator with a seat, backrest and storage bag.
Lightweight is relative.
Eight kilograms may be manageable for one person and difficult for another, particularly when lifting into a boot rather than simply moving the rollator along the ground.
If car travel is important, consider both the weight of the rollator and who will regularly be lifting it.
Will a rollator fit in the car?
The Easy Stride folds to approximately 27 cm wide, making it considerably slimmer for transport or storage.
Folded width is only part of the picture. Your boot opening, available cargo space and the way the rollator folds all matter.
Before buying, measure the space where you expect to carry it rather than assuming that a folding rollator will fit every vehicle.
Does rollator handle height matter?
Yes. Correct handle height can make a noticeable difference to posture and comfort.
The Easy Stride handles adjust from approximately 76 to 96 cm, while the seat height is approximately 54 cm.
As a simple starting point, rollator handles are commonly adjusted around wrist crease height when standing upright with your arms relaxed.
For more detail, see our Rollator Measuring Guide.
What else should you check?
The Easy Stride has a 135 kg maximum user capacity, 8 inch wheels, dual action brakes, a padded seat and backrest, and a detachable storage bag.
It is also listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods under ARTG 283359.
Those numbers are useful, but the best choice still depends on where the rollator will be used, how it will be transported and whether its dimensions suit the person using it.
Quick check
Weight — approximately 8 kg
Folded width — approximately 27 cm
Handle height — approximately 76 to 96 cm
Seat height — approximately 54 cm
Maximum user capacity — 135 kg
A rollator can be easy to walk with and still be awkward to lift.
If you regularly travel by car, weight and folded size deserve just as much attention as the seat, wheels and storage bag.
